A member here asked me to post these pics to see what everyone thought of them. Here goes...

Update from Cary--the name of these wilds is actually Novo Olinda, rather than Nova Ica.

These Nova Ica's got home here last week. They came from Cary at Great Lake Discus via Oliver at Below Water. Since this is a learning experience I would appreciate any all comments about these fish. All I ask is that you be honest and truthful. Call it the way it is.
THANKS ALOT MY BROTHER for these very nice ICA's. Thank You Ryan for posting these for me, cause I am not smart enough to figure it out.

Thanks My Brother,

Dodge

Nice looking wilds :) Does anyone know the species name of these discus?

Really nice. Is Nova Ica a Nhumunda? Don't expect all will look identical. some may have central bar like Heckel. The reverse central bar is outstanding. Make sure you keep a straight quarantine procedure and not using the same siphon hose from the rest of the tanks. I'm pretty sure you will enjoy them. They are as tough as nails. Treat them like Cichlid. Nice looking wild. You'll get more after they've settled in. I know you will. Do you think this fellow will make a nice tankmate with the wild discus?
Jimmy.

BB I am not sure yet as I am asking cary to do me a favour to bring them in as he's coming in May.

Dodge,

Very nice! I really like them. Give them several months to settle in and then repost some pictures. I am sure they will get even better. Wilds take time to fully color up, but are well worth the wait.

Good job Oliver and Cary! (And Mother Nature!)

Thank you very much for the honest replies. You never know what mother nature will do. I will give them all the time they need and will keep everyone posted.

Thanks Alot

Gorgeous !!!
But just as Jeff said, you must repost with an update, as every day the fish will look better until fully settled, and then continue to improve. Right now they are beautiful but look nothing like they will be.

And as JimmyL says, the reverse bars (clear bars) are not a permanent feature. Much of the time the bars are darker than the background, just like we are used to see them. However, in conditions of fright (such as the fish are now having just arrived) or when demontrating various moods (dominance, submission, arousal, etc,) the bars can be switched on/off, sometimes within seconds. They are remarkable. Curipera do the same, and sometimes heckels.

Rod, I can not see the fish properly as they are not settled it yet, but if I am not mistaken, all of those pictures are showing various color variations of Symphysodon aequifasciata haraldi (the blue discus).

Thanks for sharing Dodge, and congratulations !!!
Cheers, Francisco.

Update time:

They have all seemed to have settled in more. There is a couple that think this is Carys place. LOL I am going to take more pics. today and hopefully I will not have to send them to Ryan to post.
One interesting thing is that they have really started changing colors, some and others not. Kind of Cool if you ask me.
