Hi all,

One of my discus is very skinny and pale and getting skinnier every day. I have treated it with Praziquatel and Metronidazole without any sign of recovery. It eats a lot and behave normal. I've checked the feces, there's no sign of internal parasites. The feces is black and solid (once I found the feces about 1" long with 2mm diameter).

I've lost 2 discus with the same problem. Not that they died of the cause but I simply put them to sleep. They're awfully skinny like paper. I've been thinking to put this one to sleep but I really want to know what cause the problem. It's really frustrating. I've asked around and read articles but cannot be sure. I personally think that it's a fish TB

Can someone help me, please?!

Thanks,

DD

DD.

Sorry for your troubles. I recently had a similar problem with a heckel. I wish I could help you but I can't. My fish did not survive either (it died last night). I wonder if its some type of liver dysfunction. ???

In my case I tried Flubendazole and the fish just got worse.

I think maybe the drug built up in his liver and became toxic because he got worse as the treatment continued. Just a guess though.

HI,
It could be internal worms, which slowly use up all of the discus nutrients.

It can be treated best with meds in the food.
You can try pipzine (piperazine)

Or Prazi in food for tapeworm at 400 mg/ 1/4 lb beefheart
prazi in the water = 1/4 tsp/20 gal

or use flubendazole for nematodes (internal worms)
in food = 200 mg/100gr beefheart
in water = 1/4 tsp/20gal

or panacur in the food http://forum.simplydiscus.com//index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=1138

or garlic in food (whole clove ground up)

Hi all,

Thanks for all the replies. My water conditions:
- PH around 6.5
- Temp around 32' C
- I dunno about GH or KH. But I assume they're ok and have no detriemental effect on this case.
- I do 50% WC every week. The tank is filtered with 1 cannister and sponge with power head for polishing. The sponge is washed everytime I do water change.

I've tried to obtain flubendazole or febendazole but none of LFS seem to have it. Can I get these from chemist? I presume they're some kind of antibiotics?

I've also tried a chewable dog dewormer for 11 or so types of worms. The fish ate it a little. But shows no improvements. If it is worms, would there be any sign of the worms coming out the fish anus?

Thanks

DD

hI,
I would do at least 30 % wc three times a wk.

What do you feed and how often?
