Protozoans can, and poor water quality/bacterial problems can as well.

Hi, Guys

Thanks for the info !

One more question:

Does fish always scratch against subject in the tank when infected by gill fluke ? Is there a way to distinguish gill fluke from other disease with similiar sympton ?

Any input is greatly appreciated !

Actually adult fish can show no symptoms of flukes at all! They get used to it. Its the younger fish and fry that have the most probelms.

If you suspect a problem... you might want to try...

1) increase your water changes, and tank hygiene (wipe everything daily).. make that tank shine....; wait and watch a few days.. If the probelm persists... its not water quality.

2) get formalin, and try it... Formalin works on most external parasites, and can help with bacteria.
It may not eradicate but if you see an improvement you are heading in the right direction.

3) No effect of formalin... Consider bacterial... start with a mild antibiotic...methylene blue or Furan -2 ( which has meth blue in it) are good starts.

This is just a general guideline that I might use in my tank..Its not a guaranteed cure :)
