Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the board and the discus hobby, however have been keeping tropical fish for quite some time. I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with Marc Weiss's products, like Instant Amazon, Peat Nuggets and Bacter Vital?

Are they good in the discus tank? Have you seen any positive/negative effects on the fish.

Thanks.
O.

Hi O,
Welcome to our forum!! :)

I have Never used them, and probably never will. I think theres more economic ways to "condition your water," a bale of Peat moss will go alot further if you are interested in trying to soften up your water, and add tannins. It will also cost a bundle less and leave you with plenty of cash to buy more fish. We've had a coupel of good posts on using peat here.

I think if you spend some time asking lots of questions here, and reading the back posts you'll find that alls you really need is clean water, good food, stable temps, stable pH, and you'll do great. Avoid messing with your water too much...Discus don't do well with change.

If I can help at all, let me know! :)

Al,

thanks. I will certainly do that.

Speaking about peat. i've used peat seed starter containers in the past. you can cut them up into neat plates and it is by far less messy that way.

Hi O,
It may be worth a shot, I have used the garden variety by placing it nylon stockings....rinse well, adn it works fine! Some use it in cannsiter filters, that are run in their holding tanks.

I have used the Jiffy peat pellets for spawning Nothobranchius (killifish). They expand way beyond the little round, quarter sized initial pellet. There's a little mesh covering that holds the peat together.

Must be careful though when you purchase them....don't buy ones with fertilizer added. Jen K.
