Aloha Hunterbeav, would you please put me on your list(PLEASE) :o :o ;D? I have five blu diamonds so I think and then I bought another sold as a BD also. I would like to know what makes a BD and what makes a ABD, what seperates them? The collection of these discus are 2 different shades of blue. Any info would help.

Nice fish! Another testament to Wayne Ng quality. HB, you've got another cash cow there. I thought BDs weren't expected to breed until around 2 yrs of age?

Aloha, I think the ABD has finer scales vs. a BD which gives the fish a softer blue color. Maybe a more velvet appearance as well.

What a sec, Jim!

where those the abd's you posted pics of when you first got them?

if so re-post those first pics, if they are all I gotta say is WOW!

04-26-2003, 01:47 PM
Hey Danny,

please stop more often at symply. :)

Correct me if i am wrong, but the angels have finer scales which makes them look abit different from the regular BD.
Sort of like a powder-blue.

I don't know why, but most of my BD loose the red color in their eyes when mature, i don't know if the angel blue diamonds are the same.

Yes, they look more powder blue or often even light green depending on lighting. The Angel Diamonds also lose the red in their eyes but may also came back during spawning etc.

Here are some pics of the spawn Jims came from. :)

WOW! JIM,

Good job Bringing them back to shape! they were ugly when they were little.

Glad Me and You worked things out! My only point to the long ago post was People should get nice round Discus when small and should not Have to Put tons of time and food into them to get them looking good again.

Most Discus with poor shapes when small have been neglected. To me this means they will never reach a good size IMO. But You keep us post and I'll try to lower My standerds.
However most cannot do what You have done with these.
Good Job Jim.

TakeCare,
Cary Gld!

Hey Jim,

I'm drooling with jealousy. I have seen some Angel BD in person and man my jaw just dropped. They are the most beautiful Discus I have ever laid my eyes on.

Yours looks just terrific and remind me of the ones I saw.

Wow what are you feeding them? They are already breeding at 11months? You are definitely doing something correct. Perhaps I can take some tips from you. I have a pair of Cobalts that are about 11months old and still haven't spawn yet. They did show sign of spawning behaviour but nothing came out of it.

Also I was told Cobalts are able to breed at around 11months while BD normally breeds much later on (due to them maturing later)...and you are able to get them to breed at 11months? WOW.

Can you give me your water parameters and feeding schedule and foods. Thanks Jim.

Best of luck in getting a bigger spawn.

Cheerio,

Chi.

Thanks Bill and Chi, as far as water parameters I just use good old tap till they spawn then go to R.O. My tap is ph 7.6 conductivity of 475 to 525 and keep temp at 84 to 86. I do 40% w/c's daily and wipe down tanks every other day. I feed lots of CBW's and Beefheart and Tetra Colorbits also feed frozen Bloodworms and Hikari Discus Red Color Enhancer pellet. I feed my adults 3 times a day morning I feed Beefheart, afternoon I feed Hikari pellets or colorbits after which I do my40% W/C and then in the evening I feed lots of CBW's. When they start to spawn in the community tank I let them go 4 or 5 times before moving them to a 29. In the 29 I add R.O. water ph 6.0 conductivity 80 to 90 and temp of 82 to 83. I then feed only CBW"s and nothing else. At 5 days free swimming I feed bbs till there 2 weeks freeswimming then I remove the parents. At 2 weeks I cut up CBW's with sissors till there very fine and feed only that 6 times a day for a week. After that I also cut up beefheart very fine, and feed both. Hope this may help you. Thanks Tran, we only got 6 wigglers out of that spawn. I took those 6 wiggler and put them with a batch of red turk wigglers that were the same age. Will see in about 3 or 4 weeks if they made it lol. As soon as I took them out the ABD's spawned again. This time it looks like 40 wigglers, he's getting better. Below is a picture of this spawn :)

Hi Jim, Hi Diane,
Its your favorite Texan Oscar, Great job with those guys they look awesome, remember Jim im first at those babies when you get them. Just to mention, what i understand about angel blue diamonds is that they dont have to have high fins but they have to have very small and fine scales and thats where the angel part comes in. They look very smooth and fine.
