I've never heard of this technique. It sounds like a common Asian practice amongst bigtime breeders. Whatever the case, his discus are awesome.

This technic works well (really well) with Angel fish...but when I tried it with discus it didnt seem to work as well...or at all. Maybe the light wasnt bright enough for the discus? I dunno....never really gave it a serious effort.

Very interesting, But does it last? I've been to Jimmy's hatchery in Hong Kong, he sells all his discus to Japan and is working on the Black bat, a black colored blue diamond.

I left the tank light on 24/7 for the first month or so after pulling the parents with the batch of PBxRT from last December. They still ended up with pepper. Maybe that wasn't enough light. Maybe because I missed the first 3 weeks . . . .

I like the stripes on my wilds, and the pepper on my PB's...i will encourage my fish to continue just being themselves ::)
