Anyone got a suggestion on a great air pump to use on 12 tanks. I'm using individual small pumps on each tank right now. Would like something powerful :) Thanks Jim & Diane

I use "the Pump" model 20 from Hagen...I am using it on 16 tanks...super quiet and so far no problems..also the one from Jehmco is supposed to work fine.

just watch what they want for s/h. some like to make money on it.
got a linear "whitewater" for $76 bucks.
i'm going to use smaller air pumps to start with an see how they work. in the mean time will be rigging up my pvc air lines for the big pump.

:bounce2: :bounce2: Hey Dianne, call John @ Jehmco, I have the 25w linear pump from them & it's great, never have to worry 'bout air. Two weeks ago, had a power outage, luckily only lasted 2 hrs, but the pump & the inverter both from Jehmco worked well. (deep cycle battery) Dottie ;D

Model #LPH45
45 watts
1.6 CFM @ 2 PSI
25-35 outlets This is a jehmco pump. Is 1.6 cfm @ 2 PSI enuff power to run 16 hydro sponges better then what the tetra tec 80's are doing. Thats what I have on each hydro right now. Thanks Jim & Diane

i did some homework and decided to stick with the maxima air pumps, the smallest maxima with two outlets usually runs around $15 and powers 5-6 tanks and only draws like 2watts.

2 of these pumps would probably do all 12 tanks and only use 4 watts of power. rebuilds are cheap too.

i really don't see much advantage to going to the linear piston pumps. 45 watts, come on. if you buy 7 small pumps to power 35 tanks thats a total of like 14 watts, plus they are easy to find rebuild kits and are cheap, you can expand as you need. the cost come out pretty close if your talking 35tanks but with 12 i'd stick with the small pumps, they use less electricity.

I have 25 tanks in the house and my problem with the small pumps is low pressure. I found that when I added an additional sponge filter or airstone bar to a tank I would have to adjust all the valves to balance things. I added a linear pump last year and looped my fish room with PVC at the ceiling (low ceiling in utility room) and when I drill a hole for a new tap there's still enough pressure in the line for everything else to keep going and when you set up a new tank you don't have to readjust any of the other valves. I have bought a Whitewater blower to replace the linear and am in the process of extending the PVC to the front rooms of the house. :)

Thanks all , I'm going with the 26 watt pump from jehmco. Talked to John from jehmco and he told me I have 30 days to try it. If I don't like it I can send it back and get a refund. Sounds like a deal!!! :)

I'm interested in this pump.

Has anyone owned it and are they happy with it?

Jeff I think thats more for a large single tank or maybe a couple med. sized tanks. 80 watts seems like a lot of power to run a small pump though.

Agree that 80 watts is too much consumption. Even thought the pump is cheaper, I'd pay more in electricity in the long run.

In looking at the Jemco linear pumps. They rate the output in terms of "CFM". What does that stand for?

I've seen other pumps use the "L/MIN" measurement and I'm just trying to figure out how to compare the different ratings.

CFM= cubic feet per min which is a ton more then LM= liters per min :) :)

I agree that you will not be sending the pump back.
I love my 45, have never had any problems with it , it's quiet as a mouse, and it sure beats 5-6 small pumps cluttering up the place.

I've seen these pumps marketed under lots of names. The linear pump is good, but looks pricey!

After looking into this for a while, I just bought the Jehmco #LPH26 and I am very happy with it! I could not beat it for the price, output, and power consumption. You get tons of output for a mere 26 watts. And the thing is extremely quiet!

Check out "The Pump" for 20 tanks.40 tanks and 60 tanks. made in Japan. Expensive but the best. Most professional breeders are using them in Asia and Japan. Extremely quiet. Most shop can order it for you but none will carry them. It's a professional class air pump for minimun of 20 tanks.

I have one of these Whitewater pumps. VERY NOISY!
After using it for a day I called Jehmco and ordered one of the linear air pumps there. Now the two pumps put out the same amount of sound. (the white water is unplugged and on a garage shelf, the Jehmco pump is in my fish room. 'Nearly SILENT')

If you want the Whitewater I'll sell it to you for $60 plus shipping. Then you can pass it on to someone else after you get it. ;)

I'll let you all know how well I likejehmco's linear air Model #LPH60
60 watts
2.4 CFM @ 2 PSI... once I run the lines :)

Last I checked I was running over 20 of those hagen maximas and to run the additional tanks in my racks I'd need more. I've already spent more in small pumps than I would have spent on this linear if I only new then what I know now(that I am a tank-aholic ;D with no cure in sight!)

I opted for the above to do my whole house(got tanks everywhere) and to aerate my water storage bins.

I have the jehmco #LPH26 .9 CFM@2PSI Their smallest linear piston pump. It has been running for at least a couple of years. If my memory serves me right, I bought it used (~1 year old) and I have had it for ~1 year since then.

It is dead quiet (the bubbles it provides on my sponges is noisier than the pump itself) I am running 14 hydrosponges right now (at fairly high bubble rate) and the left over air is running in my water storage barrel. The barrel is well...dare I say more like a torrent! lots of air left. And the storage barrel is 5 feet deep so you know there is a lot pressure behind this pump. I'd give it an A+++ for dependability and output.

John,

My fish room is located in the garage so Noise should not be a factor. How is the performance otherwise?

Thanks for the input.

Otherwise the performance is fine. I had it hooked up to my PVC distribution system. I had it connected to 12 sponge filters and had to vent it to prevent too much back pressure.
