Happy Birthday Ethan Sabetta aka Brewmaster Jr..

Hi all,
Not much time here, just wanted to say that last night at 8:51 pm Ethan J. Sabetta was delivered by C-section (he was breach). He weighed 9lbs, 1 oz, and is 22 .5 inches long. My wife Carrie and he are doing well.

Its such an incredible thing--except for the sleep deprivation--but we know your used to that. Taking care of a baby is a breeze compared to artificially raising discus...lol.

I would suggest in this case to wait 1.5 - 2 years before converting to bare bottom, just in case ;)

Been a busy couple days spent going back and forth to the hospitol to spend the nights with carrie and Ethan, and then the days with my 2 year old , Becky. somewhere between I caught a hour of sleep I think. :)

Took Mom and the baby home on Monday afternoon, didn't sleep much ( the baby - and the parents) But we are settling in. Its good I already am used to little sleep, the change to no sleep has been easy for me ... a bit tougher on my wife. ;)

Tanks look like hell... surprisingly I had fry go free swimming on a pair that never got it right before., and had fish spawing all over the place... must be something in the water. :) Go figure!

Tonight we watched one of my daughters cartoons (kipper) and as the four of us lay there on the bed I realized just how cool this is. What a feeling!

Hi Steve,
the pair in question is a wild green male that has spawned many times successfully, the female is a striated Blue, and though layed eggs.... has never raised Fry. Actually These two have been together since November and I have patiently waited...

Their water is like all my pairs... Conductivity of about 100-125.... pH is usually about 6.5-6.8...but I have almost zero for carbonate hardness(I have mg and iron in my water) and this results in major drops in pH. Its not uncommon in my tanks for the pH to drop to 4.5 if I skip wc in those tanks for a few days, and continue to feed as normal.(they are 29 gal tanks).

Knowing my pH was prone to crash.. I switched all my breeders over to mostly tap water the week before, and bumped up the pH with bicarb to ~7.3.
The actual pH in that tank whenThe fish spawned was 6.9 and it was 3 days since a water change. Conductivity was 250us!


Incidentally... My tap water runs at a conductivity of about
450us from the mg/iron.. and I have gotten hatch rates of close to 70 % in straight tap ( it was a planted tank)
