View Full Version : Blue Diamond and Wild Green pair
Hi,
Just wanted to share a few pics of my BD and wild-caught green. They've been hanging together for a month or so, and a few hours after I moved them to the breeding tank the BD started laying eggs. The WG just stared at her for the first minutes, then he (hope it is a male, at least) started eating the eggs :furious:
Every fourth day(!) the BD lays eggs, and have done so four times by now (almost exactly at 4 pm as well ;)). Every time the WG eats caviar >:( Maybe I should try to pair her up with another male?
More info about the fish can be found in this tread:

I really want them to breed, because I love what I've seen in the BDxWG-pics posted by Beth_A!
Ooooh...I almost forgot...the pics:

Thank you all for the very nice comments!
A little update:
Five days ago I put two other BDs (siblings of the original female) in the tank to see if this could trigger the spawning-instinct in the wild-caught green, or maybe one of the BDs would step in when the female laid her eggs. Well, the WG couldn't care less and none of the latest added BDs showed any interest when the female laid her batch of eggs two days ago >:( But recently I saw something that could be flirting between the two 'new' BDs and today it was obvious that something was going on :o I took out the first pair (BD and WG) so the 'new' BDs could spawn in peace without their sister chasing them all the time. About 04:30 pm this afternoon one of them started laying eggs, and the other was eating them (almost straight from the tube). Actually, they both seemed to have ovipositors, and yes, the other started laying eggs about 06:00 pm :banghead:
Now I have three proven BD females, but none proven males (I only have one more BD, but that is a runt that I regard unsuitable for breeding).
I guess I will put the first pair back in the tank tonight, maybe accompanied with a third fish. The new 'pair' will go back to the community tank and hopefully they will 'straighten' out ;)
Some more pics...The first one shows the newest 'pair' to the right.
Here's the 'second' BD laying her eggs, after having just eaten all the eggs laid by the fish to the right. Nice and red eggs (Yes, I put a bit of astaxanthin in the beef heart mix), but what does it help when there's no male to fertilize them...
The eggs are still on the PVC as I write and are being fanned by the 'mother'.
