Sorting by size

I have 15 sub - adult discus spread out in 3 - 55 gal. tanks. Each tank seems to have 1 or 2 that are smaller than the others, sizes run from 3.5" to 5".

I was thinking of putting the 5 smallest in one 55, the 5 mid size in another 55, and the 5 largest in another 55. All the fish I have had for 4 months, etc. so I am not worried about quarenteen.

Would this help the smaller ones grow better ? I know it would help on the aggression.

Has anyone done this ?

yes ive done that. it will help im sure. some may be getting close to maturity and there will be more aggression so id definitley put the smaller in their own tank .
of course some of the bigger ones may be the males.
