If you have pics of discus with fry on their backs, please share them.

I think it is a gift of thiis hobby to witness this. Discus are unique and this is one of the main things that sets them apart from other cichlids. Generating a food source for the young as part of caring for the fry.

Thank you Al, yeah I'm proud. Although, there aren't too many. I'm debating on pulling them out (before mom eats them to spawn again) and feeding them bbs in their own 10 gal tank :-\ If I wait too long, I won't need to worry about it.

Terry, how are you? I finally got some fry! How are yours doing? It's so much fun watching the parents 'train' them. The male and female race from end to end of the tank, leaving the fry behind, then sit and wait for them to attach again. When they have, they take off again.

I tell non-discus people about them, they look at me like I'm crazy :crazy:, they say fish??????

Hi Barb,

My pair eats the fry as they go freeswimming and then spawn again about 4 days later. I raised some fry to about nickel size but gill infection killed them off. I'm sure I just need to pull the female as the male tends to have them attaching but the female acts jealous.

By the way BEAUTIFUL PAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking very good. They have been side feeding for a week already. That's the same age you had the fry last time. I'm sure you can handle them without any problem. Time to rest and pull off the female and let the male take charge for a few more days. Do not interrupt the spawning cycle. Otherwise you have to wait for a while before she'll spawn again.

Hi all - got around tonite to taking some pics of my fry from my red/brown female x blue ss male. Both came from Cary when they were a few months old last fall. This is their second spawn - only about 12 hatched out - both appear to be excellent parents.

Sorry about the fuzzy pics but I did not want to use the flash.

In both pics is the female - the male was off duty when I was taking pics !!

This was their second spawn - they only had 11 hatch from the first and they ate them when they laid eggs for the second time - I hope they don't eat these !

This is my wild Red Tucurui male with his babies from a SS mom. They went FS yesterday. This is their 3rd batch in as many months. Each time I take the babies away they go right back to making more.

The babies are 15 days free swimming and starting to eat beef heart now.

Still feeding on the parent though, as above. I removed the female a week ago when she got a bit edgy. This male is very protective and alway tries to kill the siphon hose.

More than half appear to be turqs and the rest are snakeskins.

It took me several months to get the pair this far, even though they spawned every week. Mostly the eggs didn't develop but sometimes hatched and the fry seemed weak and failed to attach.

This time I use good 'ol PEAT ;D

Boy Cary, those are the cleanest butterflies I've seen . . . I guess those pictures lay to rest the claim that fry won't attach to white pigeons.

This is very true! However at first they did not do so well!
I had to lower the water level and turn off the filter for the first 3 spawns. But now they have learned to do it on their own without any help from Me ;D

Just testing new software.

6 months ago, this boy spawned about 10 times. Every time, less than a handfull of eggs hatched and they ended up eating them. I gave up on him and stuck him back into the community tank.
I tried him again recently because he was my only confirmed male.
I thought it was strange because I only ever saw less than 10 fungused eggs. Wow! He is now a father of ~200 babies probably more ( too many to count :) ).

And to think I was going to ride him off.

The fry started swimming with the mom two days ago. In two months they might be looking for a good home. I will be contacting you since we will be also in a new location by then.
