Fin and Tail rot Please Help!!!!!

Help! I treated my fish for a week with Maracyn then daily with Melafix but although they act okay their fins seem worst. What should be done besides the water changes and so on.? Is there something other treatment I should be doing? I do have a planted tank so salt is not an option is it.

Hi,
Treating something like that in a planted tank is real difficult. My best suggestion aside from pulling and treating them in a hospitol tank is to treat the tank with either Oxytetracycline or maracyn 2 (minocycline).

Trimming the rotted areas of fin may also help.

Thanks I think I'll try the Maracyn 2. I have human grade readily available at 250mg per cap do you think I could use this? My husband has Rosea and that's what he's on dailyand at what dose if I can.

Hi Maracyn 2 contains 10 mgs minocycline per capsule. ../10 gal water.

250 mg would be alot! It should work though if you dilute it, though I would not advise it. Solubility might be an issue.
