Hi Sly,
most of what I have seen on spirulina use by people points to its benefits to those suffereing from liver illness. I haven't seen anything on excess use and causing the illness. GOt a link?

one thing I do know and it may be important here...is that spirulina is unique among the plants as having large amounts of Glycogen... This is energy supply for muscles.. The liver stock piles glycogen, and its possible that too much of this good thing could cause a problem.... additionally spirulina has large amounts of iron...again... good but too much isn't .

In theory , yes... too much spirulina could be a problem with discus. I would gues though we run a similar risk when we add nominal amounts of vitamens to their diet.

Interesting question Sly.

We have a case here in Singapore where an actress is sueing a slimming pills company for her liver failure problems. The Doctor of the defandant said that it might be the spirulina she's comsuming that brought failure to the liver.

What about Ms Cruz's assertion that she now has to 'slow down'?

Dr Wendon said that transplant patients could jog and do light exercise. But she advised them against lifting heavy weights.

(Ms De Cruz had claimed that her activities were curbed by her liver problem.)

As for the pills that Ms De Cruz had taken, the specialist said she was unable to say for sure that the supplements Ms De Cruz had taken was the 'definite cause' of the TV star's acute liver failure.

(The defendants claim that Spirulina, an anti-oxidant and health supplement, caused Ms De Cruz's liver to fail).

What about the Slim 10 pills which the actress had bought and consumed in an effort to lose weight?

Were they the 'killer capsules'?

Did Slim 10 damage the star's liver so badly that, had she not undergone a transplant in May last year, she would surely have died?

For that and more we shall have to wait for 'Episode Eight' when Dr Wendon is further cross-examined.
