Considering you have good water paramaters, healthy fish with a good variety of diet and faithfully do W/C's do you think what you have inside your tank makes a significant difference in how your fish show there colors?
Do you think large pieces of driftwood, gravel bottoms and colored back glass make your fish show there colors better or less?

Yes, especially pigeon bloods. It is well known that PB pepper is more prominent with dark backgrounds and fades with pale blue. Discus can and do change their color.

Lighting will also highlight the blues or yellows in your discus.

Darker objects make the fish look darker. As Carol has said, they blend into there enviroment as much as is possible.
Light blue colors seem to wash out black peppering in pigeons very well. Dark blue is ok for most fish, but will show more pepper for pigeons. Black IME is bad for most fish, with Blue diamonds and Red melons being the exception.
What colors are you looking at doing?
Good luck, Matt
PS: Most believe gravel is harder to maintain good water quality with. A light color painted bottom helps alot with the looks of the fish. JMO, Matt
