I am growing out some juveniles and one of them I picked up cheap. I am trying to figure out what the hell he is. The strange thing is that he has 10 stress bars. Does anyone know if that is common?

The one I am referring to is the blurry one in the middle!

Crap, I'm trying to find one that illustrates his ten stress bars. >:(

He is at the top and you can sortof see his bars. He is the light brown one. I have the feeling he is the ugly duckling because he is starting to show signs of color and I have a strange suspicion he is going to be kindof pretty when he grows out. When I bought him he looked a bit sickly and had some tail rot. Now he is very social and healthy and he eats like a freaking cow! I'll post some better pics later.

There is a very faint stress bar between his eye and the bar behind his gill cover. Sorry about all of the pics I didn't review them before I posted them.

The pictures don't really reflect it but his markings are quite small compared to other red turqs I've had. I almost think he has some snakeskin in him. The extra stress bar also leads me to that conclusion.

From what I understand, the snakeskin is a derivative of the red turq so you are probably heading in the right direction.

Ryan, I also think he is a red turk....RT's can throw a number of oddities, as far as stress bars and markings. One of them even looks to have some tiger markings in him
(vertical markings) There could be some snakeskin somewhere in that strain...Snakeskins can have any number of stress bars on them, the key to a snakeskin is the markings on the gill plates.....

....interesting, I recently got a fish with about 10 bars and and was told it was a snakeskin. The blue striations are "fine line" and the body color is exactly the same as my red turquoise Discus. It's a gorgeous fish @ about 3.5" and I am very happy with it.

Hey Sketchy,

If you have any pics of him I would love to see them! Maybe give me something to look forward to. :D
