Hi Jason and Barron,

The discus in second pic are red melon. Not sure about the first pic.

I dont think is Malboro and snake as i have that pair. Some babies have similar bar to yours.
But not the colour.

Did you buy it together with the red melons ?
Maybe sometimes when the owner breed red melon x red melon, you will get those type. Just guessing. I have no idea.

Cool discus anyway. :)

Ronny

Hi Jason,

Maybe to get melon, you have to breed particular discus types for few times.
So when you have a pair of melon, sometimes you will get different colour.

with malboro red (f) x blue ss (m) babies, i have 50% malboro red, 30-40$ snakeskin, 10% unknown species (look like snakeskin based but less bars). :)
I have not able to keep unknown species until they big. I found it that they are too weak.

With my 50% malboro, some has slighly bars on their body, some are really clean.

I have a book in cross breeding discus. How to get certain strain of discus....
It says there that to get red diamond (F7) is to cross san merah with malboro (look like golden one to me).

Oh found this in the book, red malboro (m) x super san merah, you will get F1 red melon and majorities of red malboro. When you cross F1 red melon with F1 red melon, you will get F2 red melon, red malboro, san merah, solid red. F2 San Merah x Red Melon, you will get F3, red melon, red malboro, san merah and solid red. F3 red melon and F3 red melon, you will get F4 Red melon (Bright Red), red malboro, san merah, solid red. Phewww... so many too typo...
All the way until F6 red diamond x F6 red melon, you will get F7 red diamond.

Your first pic is nearly similar to the san merah in the book. It has reddish colour with bars. Since red melon is from san merah x malboro. When cross red melon and red melon, you might get that type (but hardly).

Hi Ping

Thanks for the post, that is why I made a guess.

To many tricks in new strains as well as old ones. Some are not at all what they claim.

LIGHTS, I am told play a part in the game.
I will leave it at that. And say no more.
And these fish will not breed true at all.

Someone may jump in, that knows more on this.

Barron :)
