this morning i noticed small white wormlike things in my tanks,

i have a 50 and a 15 gallon.

50 gallon has 5-4.5" discus, 15 has 5-2" discus.

44 gallon storage (rubbermaid) heated and has air stone.

feeding color bits and sometimes a egg/colorbit/flake/garlic mixture.

changing water 70% everyother day.

ph @ 7.4 - 7.6

no ammonia or nitrites.

50 gallon has two sponge filters (70 gallon type)

15 has a whisper 30 in it.

temp 86-88 degrees all tanks.

what cause these worms?

how do i medicate?

what are the side effect?

what caused this?

thanks for all the help, a website or advice would be great.

Don't worry, it's probably Planaria and if so they are harmless. Sometimes they increase in numbers when you over feed your fish.

Are they stuck to the side of the tank? I'm surprised they would be there with your W/C routine.

Try cleaning out the filter real good (don't kill the bacteria) and change 50% water every day. I think you'll see them disappear.

Do the worms look like dots stuck to the glass (planaria) or snips of thread on the bottom of the aquarium?

Jeep's advice will work for either tyer of worm. They are a symptom of over feeding. (I think your 15 gallon tank is over crowded)

Wipe the walls of the tank, siphon out as many worms as you can. The worms are in the filter media too. Cut back on food. in a couple of weeks you won't see them.

Do 75-80% water changes daily and wipe everything inside the tank. Reduce the amount of food you feed also.

Good Luck & Enjoy
