Four of my Discus came to me in February of this year. In that time they have been well adjusted and healthy. They eat, they peck at each other, they have good coloration and normal behavior. So I was real surprised on Sunday to see one of them passing a tapeworm. It was about 5-6 inches and took almost two hours for the poor guy to pass it. I did an 85% water change and medicated the tank with Prazi, which I keep on hand. I cleaned out the filter and scrubbed down the walls of the tank. I think I have the situation under control.

I wonder, though, if this guy – a 4.5” pigeon blood – has had it all along or if it was a result of the brief flirtation with live black worms. Can they get it from frozen bloodworms? Can tapeworms normally affect just one fish in the tank or should I expect the others to also be affected? It’s all rather disturbing
