I have had pretty good luck with hydrogen peroxide and a scrub pad.

Hydrogen Peroxide can soften Chlorine stain and any biological stain on glass. Turn them into foam and can be wiped away easily. Excellent carpet cleaner too. Put in spray bottle and make an excellent household cleaner.

Jimmy I never thought of that! With all these "Oxyclean" deals on the market now it makes perfect sense.

Wow! Who knew there were so many "Martha Stewarts" on this site ;D

I'm loving the peroxide idea! You would not ever do this with fish in the tank - right? Like, suppose you do a whopping 85% water change and you want to remove hard water stains in the middle of the front pane of glass. Would you take a chance and be very careful about preventing the peroxide from running down the glass into the remaining water?

I'm asking this question under the assumption that the only stupid questions are the ones not asked :inquisitive:

Anna,
Under those circumstances I would use the razorblade. The only other time I would use any of the others would be on an empty tank that I could rinse thoroughly before refilling.

I have used another product around the house that is great for removing water stains... it's called Bar Keepers Friend.

I have never used it on tanks, but it's a powdered cleanser, and takes some scrubbing while rinsing to remove any residue.

H2O2 will not kill fish. You can use 20-30cc to neutralize PP treatment without doing a W/C. It's a mild disinfectant as well. I have patient rinse their oral and tracheal area without killing them. A general disinfectant and cleaner for medical instructments for any blood clotted or sputum clotted tubes esp. the scope for internal investigation. It has a property to bubble and foam that soften biological blockage. I use it as a Glass cleaner and a carpet stain remover. You know animals (kids included) and pets don't care how your carpet look like. They like to rub their bottoms on the carpet. Cost under $1.00 per bottle in the drug store.
