When my tank light is on, the discus are always interacting and searching for food. When the light is off they relax and if the room is dark they will be almost motionless.
Do the fish need some darkness to relax or can they thirive with 24 hour overhead light

I have my lights on 24/7 with no ill effects! Matter of fact, leaving the lights on I find almost benefical as the discus dont madly dash around when the lights are turned on! Just my experience! ;)

I leave a lamp or room light on 24/7 for the same reason as Ron. I turn the tank lights on only in the evening while I'm home to watch the fish.
