i may just be dense, i've read so much about trying to get the right PH, Hardness etc. i don't know the best way to get my water there. HELP! this is what i've got: RO water aged but no air PH 6.8-6.9 conductivty 20
RO water aged w/air PH8.2-8.4 cond. 20
tap water aged w/air PH8.2-8.4 cond. 1300>
mixed 4-1 ratio, RO - Tap aged w/air PH 8.2-8.4 cond. 210 so please whats the best way to get my PH down to 7.0 or so without rebound etc.? Acid, peat, proper PH. I'm so confused, ??? i want to do this right.

Welcome to the water world! LOL!

The most important question is "Why do you want to change the ph?"

Most of us if not all of us do not bother changing the ph. Its a real pain. If you can get the conductivity down for breeding, thats all you need. ;) ;D My water is at ph 7.8 aged and thats all I use!

so PH in the 8's is okay? :-\ what about my conductivity?
my brain hurts

I've been told conductivity is approximately 2X what TDS is. If so, your 4:1 ratio is around 105 and would be good water for breeding discus. You can go lower if you want but be careful of a ph crash. Daily water changes should avoid that.

For raising juvies and adults, many people have a TDS of 500+ (1000+/ms). My water is around 310/(620ms) and I have no problems at all. The minerals are essential for discus development.

You may be able to raise juveniles in your tap water. Buy an Aquarium Pharmaceuticals GH/KH test kit. It will tell you the hardness of your water. Conductivity can be really high from salt yet geneneral hardness low from lack of calcium and magnesium.

Non breeding discus at my house are in pH 7.8, GH 12, tds 276

For breeders I mix RO to bring GH down below 6, tds to about 100 and pH is 7.6
