heres a photo of Manaus, the Rio Negro (Black river) and the Amazon.

the more I look at this photo the more amazed I become with the size of the rivers. Manaus the city in the center of the photo has a population of 1.7 million; I think that about the same as San Diego. Now look at the wide area just to the left of the city. Isn’t that about the same size as the city?
