I'm hoping you all can help me figure out how many actual gallons are in a new tank I just aquired.

The measurements are 35" long X 11.5" wide X 23" high. I believe it's a 45 gal. but didn't want to just guess.

This is one HEAVY tank...the glass is really thick!

TIA,
Kathy

Hi Kathy,

It's actually 40 gallons. See the attached link for conversions.

Hey Kathy

Length X width X height...divide by 231= us gallons

yours is a 40...If you want to get fussy...use inside dimentions

Thanks Tony! I wasn't too far off...

Those were inside the glass dimensions. This tank is so tall it gives it the perception of being bigger than that.

I appreciate the quick response. :)

Its a good idea to check the actual gallons the tank holds before filling. Measure inside not outside. You might be suprised at the difference.
I have a habbit of "ballparking" things and rounding off. A 29 gallon is a 30 gallon to me. I was not to happy when I checked my Tenecor acrylic tanks. The model number is 125H. I ballparked it to be 115-120. WRONG! It holds 103 gallons. Customer service says that is a common model # for a tank with those dimensions (60x18x24). This may or may not be so but it is really misleading. I wonder how many people think they have a tank that holds 125 gallons.

Model # 125H
outside dim = 111.45 gall
inside dim = 103 gall

This information is real important when treating sick fish. Rich

Thanks Richie...The measurements I gave were inside glass.

The glass on this tank looks to be about 1/2" it's really thick! That would explain why it is so much heavier than my 55 gal with glass about half that thickness.

Now you have me curious what my 55 gal really holds. I'll have to measure that tonight and see.

;D ;D I've had this same problem, managed to mark the tanks for water levels for w/cs. But a QT tank, I think should be actual measurements for medication as Rich suggested, but I never seem to be able to accomplish that early on. However, my plan is now as each tank is emptied/changed to measure the water going in & marking the tanks, (yeah, right! huhmph), but at least I'll try, hahahahaha, lol, Dottie ::)
