hey everybody - first post here.. so please be gentle :P

I seperated my 2 Discus about 2 weeks ago with hope of growing them out without them competing with eachother for the food supply, as one was clearly the boss of the tank....

Since being seperated - one has layed eggs in her new tank, does this mean that they were a mated pair and I seperated them just a few weeks too soon... or is it normal for a Discus to lay eggs while she is alone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanx in advance :)

Some discus are just egg laying machines and will lay eggs under any circumstance.

Could be a pair though. The only way to find out is to reintroduce them.

I don't know their age, but I know they were about 3 inches when I got them in mid July. Now the one who clearly dominant has gotten up to 4 and a half. I hope he's a male, but I dont really know.
The female hasn't grown as much, shes about 4 inches now.
They shared a 20G tank with 10 small rummy nosed tetras, and 1 golden algae eater.
The other tank is a 10G and has the female discus and 1 lil' cory cat

Howdy Graigy;
Just a suggestion . Place the discus in the 20 gallon and your other fish in the ten gallon.

Give the discus some room and watch what happens.
