think of it this way. if your doing water changes daily.....then your washing it down the drain. the saying is....K.I.S.S.
keep it simple stupid. no offence to hte stupid part. just a phrase a discus breeder coined.
kent ro right adds minerals....
theres also those black water extracts etc...and they say youd do just as well to add a few tea leaves. or peat.
so....clean clear water , same parameters and your fish should smile.

The other solution I used to do was blending a solution of calcium carbonate 25%
and magnesium sulfate 25% and 50% synthetic sea salt. The calcium carbonate
is hard to get out in the water then is better to use calcium hydroxid (kalkwasser)
if you don’t use CO2.

If you want to keep it simple it's up to you. Often better.

Filtering over peat leaches humic acid compounds into the water and become the
dominate buffering system. Makes the water "more" stabel with low pH the if your
are using "hydrochloric acid" etc. If "fulvic acids" from the peat also help the increase
the intake of calium is also intressting. You find the information if you are typing fulvic
on the internet. There are also possible to have softwater when you are making regular
daily waterchanges.

Please I'm no water chemist. I can be wrong. ;) This is what I have been told.
