height of breeding tanks

i have three rows of breeding tanks. one row is 8 inches off the floor. ive been told discuss will not breed that low. any comments. i did not know fish can tell height.

it's not the height, it's the shadows and movement. Think about fish the wild, the instinct is to move away from the surface as soon as something appears above them. IMO, being so low on the rack will disturb them.

I don't have any breeding tanks that low, mine are 18 inches or more, my low tanks breed just as often much as my high tanks do. If you leave the tank lights on 24/7 you should not have any problems with them spooking.
