Hi all,

I would like to know if is it possible to raise succesfully only one discus in a 90 lt tank.

I want to do so because I am thinking to buy an expensive type of discus ($ 140) an I don't have the money to buy a group of six in a larger tank.

In the 90lt tank I want to put one discus fish, one ram, 10 cardinals and one ancistrus.

Has anyone such experience?

Thanks in advance,

George

George,

One Discus by itself is a bad idea. It will be lonely, refuse food and could die.

You dont need to spend $150 for a fish. I paid $160 for six three inch fish and we love them. I only wanted five but they were getting on so well I cleaned the stores tank out.

Put your small fish in first, match water conditions with tank your Discus are coming from exactly and you cant fail.

Good luck,

Mak

A 90 liter tank is not very big - less than 25 gallon I think. Mak is correct, one juvenile discus most likely would spend most of it's time hiding. You might try a single adult . . . .

i would wait...and get a bigger tank and get a group of six to be honest with you. they really dont like being the only discus. and thats alot of money for one discus.
or..get a pair but that tank isnt even really big enough for a pair. id say 33 gallon at the least.

One discus in a tank would not be fair to the fish, discus are social fish and need to be with more of their kind...I would put your discus on hold till you can afford to get a larger tank and get at leart 5 or 6 fish..
Good luck

mugen920, my Cancdian friend (my Grandfather was from Canada). I'd put 5-6 discus in a 60 gallon tank with adequate water changes.

Hi George,
Sure it's possible for 1 discus tank with 1 discus. That's what I did 8 months ago (one 2" brown in a 40gal tank). Now 8 months later I'm an addict with 3 30gal, 1 40gal, 1 50gal, 2 135gal and other miscellaneous tanks and 30 plus discus! So yeah it's possible........hehehe............................ ..............
Welcome to simply,
