heater problem

i have a current tank with jewel cichlids and i have a heater for it im plannign to buy a smaller heater for it and put a bigger heater into my discus tank which is going to be cycled, should i worry iftheres any bad disease or bacteria stuck to the heater?

hi. yes.....give it a good cleaning with bleach..and rinse well and let sit for a bit. no sense not to.
wipe the cord also.
