My water company has just begun to use chlorimes in my tap water. I'm familiar with Prime and Amquel. Will an RO unit with a pre carbon filter work? Any other alternatives?

Bernie,
No RO unit will remove all the ammonia from chloramines. A high quality RO unit with 2x carbon filters at rated or higher pressure (50 PSI +) will reject between 85-95% of ammonia left over from Chloramines. The membrane manufacturers will not admit this but it's true.

Bernie,
I have a little experience dealing with Chloramines and have found that an RO with an add-on DI Canister does eliminate ammonia. Check with Randal he has some very good pricing.

Mary is right.
In my case it would have cost me a fortune to go that route though. My DI lasted for about maximum 200gal of R/O water.
I have 1 sediment and 2 carbon blocks before the membrane. Now I just add Prime and save the money from the DI.
Just test how far you get with a DI and then decide whats best for you.
