Hi all

I was syphoning my tank when i slipped and got my fish , he now has a massive injury to the side of him. There is some blood marks there too and i am worried about the medication he was currently being treated with.
He is in cure ex made of Formalin, Negavon and trichlorphon.
I remember reading a while back that you should not use formalin with open wounds, does any body know what might happen if he is left in this med? I cannot do a lot about it as my holding barrel has the med too.
Will start aging some fresh water.
I certainly hope i do not loose him as he is very nice and the most exspensive fish i own.

Hi,
You need to stop the med and get it out with wc's or put the discus in another tank without the med.
The wound should heal, keep an eye for secondary infection/fungus.

Cheers Arden

He is now doing a bit of darting , so i have started a slow 40%fresh water change treated with sress coat , i also got some large buckets aging some more water for tomorrow. Hopefully this helps.
I use to work with formalin in my previous job , some of the peolple there did not use gloves . This resulted in any sores they had opening up right to the bone .
Was not a nice sight.

Formalin must be use with precautions, as you point out! ;)
