I use to ask this question all the time!! The rule is 10 gallons per adult discus. For example if you have a 75 gallon tank you could probably put 7 adults and might even be able to put 8 adults if you have great water quality, BB (barebottom), water change, etc... For juvie discus it's different you could probably put a vast amount of them depending on their size, but once they get at a certain point you'd have to transfer them to others tanks because you wouldn't want 25 3.5 inch discus in a 75 gallon tank. How many gallons is your tank?

Hi,
What is the length, width and height? multiply length X width X height and divide by 231. (all in inches) this will give you gallons.

Sounds like a 15 gallon: 24"x12"X12".

Mine is also a 2ft tank - 24"W x 12"D x 18"H. It's about 22G in capacity.

Ideally I should only keep 2 adult discus in this tank (adults usually measure at least 5" in length), but I've got more than that.

If you are starting out with smaller ones (e.g. at around 2" - 3" in length), you can keep 4 to 6 discus. But be forewarned - be prepared to find more tank for the discus in about 6 to 8 months.

I agree, with smaller fish, you might even be able to squeeze in 8 fish, but you will need to move these later. Remember, keep up with your water changes though!
