Hi All

I'm having problems with an Ammonia spike, I would just like to ask if anyone knows if Ammonia is safer at lower pH and Temp.

My Ph is 5.4 and my Temp is 85 f, what is the acceptable safe amount of Ammonia in the tank?? Came across an article once about TAN, but cannot remember the Calculations. ???

My Present Ammonia levels are 2.0 - 3.0

I know that 0 Ammonia is best but one of my filters have gone.

Please help :(

Ammonia with a ph of 7.0 is ammonium and is considered a much less toxic form of ammonia however it is still harmful in high numbers I believe! Are your discus showing signs of stress? If so, water changes! If you have some ammonia detox like Prime or something will help!

Hi ronrca

Thanks for your suggestions. I have come across an interesting read about the danger levels of Ammonia.

http://ce.ecn.purdue.edu/~piwc/w3-research/free-ammonia/nh3.html

Apparently Ammonia takes on a less toxic form at lower pH also the temp has an affect on it too.

My water temp is 82f
pH is 5.4
Ammonia shows 3 mg/l

After I've entered it on the Ammonia calculator it shows that my levels are quite safe. I still do water changes everyday to get it lower until my filters picks up again.

Please can anyone confirm if this is right??

Cheers
