I wanted to find out what people are seeing in their tanks. It could be that my males are not mature enough or females are easier to spot because of egg laying.

I am finding that most of the discus I have in my tanks tend to be females. This morning I found a pigeon LSS laying eggs with no male partner. She is doing a great job of protecting it but no one is around to help her.

What is everyone else finding in their tanks?

Of the mature discus in my tanks, We're at 50% male and 50% female.

I'll know about the rest in a few months :D

Hi there,

Yeah that was the one you like. It turns out that her belly was not full from food but from eggs!!!!!

Too bad I don't have a male on hand....and the solid yellows in the tank are already paire up. I have to go look in my other tanks.

henry,
It depends. Reds are about 75% females, RSGs are 80% males and Leps are 75% males. It sure makes it fun to out cross.

Thanks Miles.

I wonder if that has to do with whether females or males have better colors. For instant, do the females in Reds tend to be bright color thus the ones breeders ship out? And in the case of spotted fish maybe males tend to show more spots or tend to show more spots when they are young?

Oh well. Does anyone have a red based male for sale?
