All opinons welcome. I get this tank on Thursday!!!!! ;D

wet/dry is the way to go.
I have just one AquaClear 500 in a 100 gal tank and do 60% w/c every 3 or 4 day. My discus look happy and healthy. But, adding more filters to the tank won't hurt. Like Carol has mentioned, I will get another AquaClear 500 ($80.0 at LFS) when I save enough $$ for it.

I did a search for the filter at PetCo. It is on sale for $32.39 is this the same one you are talking about? ???

Probably . . . most of the online catalogs sell the Aqua Clear 500 for less than $35
I currently don't have the space but in the past I found the Wet/Dry to be an excellent filter for the community tank. I think the surface skimming and trickling effect over the media really helped the fish. Possibly higher Oxygen levels? Let the so called experts debate that one. ;)
If space is a concern then I like Carol's setup. Carol also has the fish to prove it works.

It comes down to your objective. If you want this to be a grow out tank for young discus, then sponge filters are the best. You're going to be doing a ton of water changes and nothing beats the sponges for ease of cleaning and efficiency. If you're going to go to a show tank, then you probably want something aesthetically more pleasing.
Wet Drys will work well, but I recommend you buy a commercial unit. The DIY systems really pump humidity into the fish room.

I plan to put this tank in my living room for everyone to enjoy..
There are so many set ups to choose from...I just want to narrow my choices down to a few solid performers.
I am really thankful for everyone's input.

I used a 35gal wet/dry sump for many years. Had it located under the 100 gal tank. I would vaccum the 100gal (approx 25%) and just replace it into the sump area. Grew out many Discus and they spawned many times in that tank.
