I don't think you need to have even numbers of discus - just 6 or more . . .

LOL,

I always bought even # of Discus. But somehow I ALWAYS lose one and end up with a uneven # in the Tanks. Thought it might be some kind of course lol.

i dont think theres any urban legends......maybe it just goes with the personalities of us discus keepers...keep 6 or 8 or 10....or 12. uneven numbers sounds so unorganized....lol. but i just got 7 alencers.....from Jeff!!! and i got 13 fish in total!! can you imagine?? lol. and yes one sometimes ends up being the runty one.so perhaps we should all get uneven numbers for now on!!
think about it . it all makes sense!!! i have one thats kinda the small guy and i could end up with 12 nice fat healthy discus in the end!!

I would have thought that an odd number of fish will have better chances of throwing pairs.

"perhaps we should all get uneven numbers for now on!!"

I have to really consider that the next time I get some fish lol. Maybe I can break the curse :-\

Just my 2 cents, but I always have heard that you should have an odd number of fish. However, I always tend to buy even if given the choice. Happy Monday Morning! Paul.
