do eggs need light?

Hi, this may be a stupid question but do eggs need light to survive? Ive set up a artificial hatching tank but the light has broken and i'm having problems with the eggs going white on day two and only one or two eggs hatching.

I don't think they need light. Perhaps your male is hit and miss . . .
