building a stingray pond right now, either gonna use a kiddie pool or a 2x4 frame and a pond liner from homeD

Jason i think u should use the 2x4 seems to be better and it'll be a gewd experience : )
also a gewd idea is making a gewd base as the other thread forgot about this

usually it ends up being cheaper to buy them pre-made.
I get my pools from pearlsofparadise.com.
Jason, if you're gonna build a pool build a big one, 2x4 isn't very large, unless you mean meters/yards :), rays don;t need depth, they need "footprint" & the smallest ray can grow to 16" across or more. Be careful that the plastic is fish-safe & doesn't have some bacteriacide or someting in it
IME Discus are not at their best in pools, it is way harder to see them & they tend to be more shy, Vs when they are in glass tanks.......

Hi David,

I was thinking of making it out of bulk pondliners, the cut to fit stuff, about 5'X10' and 18"-20" deep with a sloping bottom to a drain and running all my waste water through it.

does that sound ok? the nitrates in my waste water are less than 15ppm. I notice alot of people with ray ponds use fine sand on the bottom, is that necessary?

i really dont' think so. sand is mostly for rays' to bury themselves in, the like to do that, but they do well in barebottom too i believe.

i talked to a ray owner/breeder. the downsides to rays are the large tank volumes needed and they eat a ton!! not cheap food either, i though discus were bad, ha, rays are horrible, they will eat 100 nightcrawlers in 5 minutes without thinking about it, shrimp, cod.... you get the idea.
