I do believe my tank is not cycled due to i changed 90% of the water and clean my ehiem filter with tap water three weeks ago. Right now, i have 9 blue diamonds in a 55 gallon, and i occur a nitrate level at 40 ppm and nitrite level at .5 ppm. I think the discus turn dark/black blue due to my tank is not cycled and nitrate.

My question is:
1) do i still have to do w/c every other day???
2) I have an AquaClear filter which is fully cycled and currently running in another tank, can i move that filter to my not cycled tank?? Would this help my tank cycle fasting????
3) Will that cycled filter help my discus to lower down on stress????

Sorry for so many questions!!!!!!

Thanks
Kevin

Hi,
I would either move that cycled filter to this tank or take one of the sponges from that filter (if more than one sponge in it) and move it to this tank filter.

Yes nitrite and nitrate can stress discus.

If you don't move the filter you need to do daily wc's until nitrites are close to 0.

When you clean filters, only clean them in used aquarium water, not tap water, tap water with chlorine will kill all the good bacteria in the filter.
