How many discus could be housed in a 77 US gal. tank with light substrate and light planting?

Blix,
substrate and plants will displace the volume of water in your 77 gallon tank...If it were me...I would only stock with 5 adults max.

Sorry, I did not mention that substrate and plant water displacement has already been factored in. Dunno if this will change your responses

Thanks

How much water will you be changing? Frequency and amount ... the more you change the more fish you can safely handle Filtration? A real good filter, such as a wet/dry or a fluidized bed will help you maintain a higher density of fish Are you looking for fast growth? If so, lower stocking density is required. What are your water parameters? If the water is acidic, you have more of a margin for error and can safely hold more fish

I keep/growout between one and two dozen discus in a 125 gallon bare bottomed tank with sponge filters ... I change 50%+ of the water every other day.

IMO, six is a conservative safe number. You can easily add another 6 fish with frequent water changes and a good filter.

Thanks for your help. I was going to do 6 or 7 any way, but now I know.
