Hi All,

I've seen aquariums with dwarf species of lilypads a few times, and I'd very much like to get one or two bunches of these for my 125 gallon. Preferably with the pads no more than 4-5" in diameter. Does anyone know what species might be best and where to get them???

Thanks, and Best,

T

I bought my nyphaea daubenyana from Rehoboth. Very nice plant, I like it a lot - round red leaves and flowers regularly. Here's the link to their site - they also have other african plants such as anubias:

Hi, Wahter,

That is a gorgeous lily, and I may have to pick up one of those for a splash of color! But I was thinking more along the lines of the green lilypads whose pads sit on the surface of the water. Do these grow up to the surface and sit up there as well?

Best,

T

The humble Banana plant will send out really nice green pads if you treat it well. I have to keep beating mine back to keep the pads from overshadowing everything.

Given time, both the nyphaea daubenyana and nyphaea lotus will indeed send out leaves to the surface (and block out the light for any plants below). Most people end up trimming these surface leaves and trying to keep the plant to produce only the underwater forms.
