Larry (LEM504) picked up the spare discus I had and asked if I'd post pictures of my (nearly) bare bottom African tank.

Carol has proven that you CAN have Beautiful and Bare Bottom Tanks, all rolled into one!

It is even more striking than the pictures!

You should see her Discus! Wow! ;D ;D

. . . leulupi, calvus and rainbows, oh my!

They really don't need much sand. I'm slowly removing it every water change.

Carol, would you mind posting some pics of your discus as well for those of us newer members who haven't seen them? I know you have a gorgeous yellow peacock. What other goodies are you hiding at your place?

Thanks for the nice comments. I change 25% of the water twice a week straight from the tap. Africans are much less sensitive to water quality than discus.

Carol,
THANKS ALOT! :waaa: :waaa: :waaa:
I wondered how You're african part of the Hobby was going? as I can see.... VERY NICELY! hey..... did that ryme? LOL
Great tank! sigh... I wished I would have never sold my Fronts! after seeing this... I think I will go get him back...hey.....I have CAMO! LOL how many times have the Brichardi spawned? Interested in selling me some? I have tried getting more here in the LAND OF SWORDTAILS and PLATYS! argh argh..... ::) they can never get me any in!
course you could net up that Front and Calvus on accident! ;) ;D
How do they do with out the gravel or sand... I would think that would be like taking my kids to the play ground and all there was to play on was asphalt?( I just tell my boys to stay off the formal couch! Hours of entertainment ahead! >:( ) I mean What would they Dig?? and make an entire mess of?? Easier and I am sure the Water Quality is so much better? I used alot of the rocks that kept the Ph higher.
Okay Post pics of the KOI and Discus now...
I'll go get my box of Klenexes.....
Hope all is well
Take care and Thanks again for posting and Sharing! ;D

Hi Karen:
They are doing just fine without the sand. The types I have don't do much digging. I wish I could catch these guys to get rid of some. It's nearly impossible with all the rocks and stumps in the tank. I keep waiting for a die off from overcrowding, but they seem to have a pretty stable enviornment. The big ones must eat enough of the small ones to keep the tank in balance. ;D
