Decent Snakeskins, Finally

Snakeskins are probably among the toughest strain to get decent fish. I've tried getting snakeskins from different sources for several years. Most of them were dumped at the LFS when they grew up. Finally, I got a batch of decent ones.

What's a decent snakeskin? My criteria include:

1. fineline pattern over entire body
2. good contrast between base color and striping
3. large size
4. round, even tall, body form.

Willie, good looking fish but not the fine line your looking for infact pretty broad stripes on them but not bad at all. Im just spending two cents here hope you dont mind.

I like a full patterned fish as well but i have some of the redest and nices SS out there and they dont have all patterned body but in my opinion much prettier color thant the others.

lst one, see i like the fish that are really deep read as far as snakes go and if you look at those without all the pattern they have a deeper red than those with all the pattern, these guys are young and the ones with pattern over their front half will be fully patterned adults.
Some of my SS have that deep red brown like the sans have, infact thats what im working on. I want to have the redest and deepest base on a SS out there with good pattern as well, look at the eyes of mine and the ones you got, see how red the ones in my pics are.

Danman, looks nice my should be spotted as they grow up as well, they are actually from a red diamond male i have whic is a spotted fish so well have to wait and see, i like yours but they could use a bit more fin on them.

I like Willie's 2nd pic the most. Snakes look better in blue vs. red to me. I remember seeing Frank's blue scorpions and being impressed.

Enjoy the frank comments. However, I find that the red based ones often have exactly the problem you're showing:

1. Vertical bars persist into adulthood.
2. Poor contrast, incomplete pattern through the body.

Besides, no fair using diamonds as parents!!! I've seen good blue based snakeskins, but not good red ones yet.

DanMan, Thats what im trying to tell you, im working on it but blues without a red base are dull if not all would be wanted just blue turqs instead of red turqs. my babies are showing their bars cause they are youn and when they grow up i bet they dont, well have to wait and see. Even that very very nice fish Drphil posted is showing some bars, but sorry doc that smells of harmones of course i could be wrong but i dont know, importers swear up and down that no this breeder doesnt use harmones but can you really be sure? I think not as i cant tell you one hundred percent that it is harmoned. I can tell you this that throughout history the mighty dollar has made people lie cheat and steal and thats a fact. Again this is not saying your doing the above i think some importers get taken as much as the everyday buyer like yours truly.
