introduce myself and share some curipera pictures

Hello @All,

a few weeks ago I found this interesting forum, was just reading but yesterday I registered. First I want to introduce myself: I'm Tomsky from Germany. I'm breeding angelfishes, catfishes and sturisoma.
3 weeks ago I got 10 Alenquer Curipera wild caughts. There are the pictures of all 10:

Darn nice fish.....I have some coming to the country sometime next week according to my importer.
The first pic and the third are oustanding diskus...maybe male and female?

excellent choice. I was amazed when I picked up my Curiperas.

I send you a picture I took at Amazon-Exotic-Import (all Curiperas). Maybe that makes your waiting time a bit shorter. I hope the owner will not kill me.

Thanks for the pic Tomsky, very nice. They look great all begging for food like that. Wild discus of any quality are very rare here in Australia and when i do see them they are mostly emaciated and generally of a low grade. But those guys sure look nice and healthy, i'll be perusing my price list from amazon again and counting my money.....

the picture above (not yours) are not adults, so more color is to expect. Sorry, I forgot to say that. But as red as in your picture they probably never become ;).

I just reduced the red a little, but the fish is still defecating red. Sorry, I only gave myself 5 minutes in Photoshop ;)

Hi @All,

I think I have to explane some things.
When I take photos of my fishes
- I use a Minolta Dimage 7i
- I use the inbuild flash light
- then I use Photoshop just to size the pichture and save it as a web image
- I do nothing else
- the tank is lluminated with a usal "daylight" Light (the cheapest, no blue, no red)

The curipera are fed on earthworm and tetra prima only.
Tetra prima only maintains the colour of the fish, also the
lighting is a daylight tube so that is the colour of the fish.
you can change the colour of the fish all you like with your
photo equipment but if you see the fish yourself you will
see the difference. Your fish are great looking wilds but
as for being curipera ?

Pete,
Don't you beleive diet is a key for the red in most cases??
Most of the wild caught discus I have observed have the yellow-bronze look in the center with the varying striations or dots and dashes.
I bet if you switched to a non caratine diet, the red would not be as intense..........JMO

There are variations on all wild fish, Some Curipura's never turn dark red, The ones Oliver sells are hand picked from 100's for red color, Feeding of color enhancing foods also brings out the red. None of the Curipuras are bright red when they are first imported. I think with proper care, Tom's fish will look outstanding! :thumbsup: Ken
