Eating eggs

I just had a two fish pair off in my tank :D. Female Marlboro Red with a Wattley Red Panda. Female is laying eggs but the male (I think) just eats them as quick as they come out :(. I've had the fish since July, 03 and this is the second pairing I ever had. Why do you think the male eats the eggs? Is this a matter of experience? ???

My young pair does the same.
Carol, April and others think a good, patient male is hard to find ;D
Give him time.
