Which acid you suggest me? in order to lower the PH of one large
quantity of water for discus.

"I would prefer one economic solution" (15'000 Liters) :'(

Thanks in advance
Geremia

Yikes.

I wouldn't play with acids to mess with my pH. I know that at Wattley's hatchery they use muriatic acid. At least that is what I was told.

What is your pH that you feel you need to lower it?

Thanks Jonh for your quick response.

The water out of the RO is 15 ms and 6,2 PH after i mix tape water the value are 300 ms 7,00 PH.

The problem begins when I add the water to the circuit, the pH begins to go
up values 7,8.
I would prefer to have lower values with my Wild Discus.

Sorry for my English :-\

Hmm... I am guessing that someone who is much more a water expert than I am will be able to help you shortly! Just wait a bit and I expect someone will have a solution for you.

John

PS. Your english is quite good!

Do you 'age' your tap water before mixing it with RO?

Thanks for your respons ronrca.

Not before, i age the tape water after i mix it with the RO, and
cange the 50% of water every Day, but it climps up stable to 7,8 PH.

The fish are OK, but I prefer to have lower PH values to enance the colors and stimulate the spawing of my Wild Discus.

Thanks again for your help

How much tap water are you adding to the RO? enough to raise 300ms from 15ms?

Try less tap water in the mix, you do not need that kind of conductivity/hardnes with your water change regime.

I assume you have a tank/tanks without gravel substrate, if you do have substrate there may be limestone or something desolving and raising the hardness of your water.

Ciao Mike

No, my system are pure glass, so no limestone or something desolving and raising the hardness.

"Maybe i change too much water" ? ???

I tried with a lower water conductivity/hardnes 100 ms but with the PH 7.8, i had dificulty with the bacteria, that it seems they grow better with low conductivity and high PH.
Therefore i asked for the use of a softly acid

This is my discus room in Italy

Sorry but the discussion is in Italian

Mike i appreciate your answer

Hi Geremia,

Nice setup you have there ;D & some great fish too.

Water changes are one thing you can never do to much of.

Not sure on the bacteria problem, I know you are right about the higher Ph allowing better bacterial growth though.

Have you tried filtering your water through peat ? It works for small systems and with large waterchanges like yours I dont think it would be problematic for you. you would need to experement a little to get things working well but I would prefer peat over acid/chemical methods.
