I'm setting up my first planted Discus tank. Should I quarantine plants and if so for how long. The plants came from lfs and I was "told" the plants came from a fish free environment. If quarantine is not needed is there anything else I need to do before introducing to discus?

I always give new plants a 10-15 minute soak in some water with potassium permanganate. Some people use alum to kill snails, etc... I also try to look carefully - sometimes you can find leeches, snails, etc... on plants.

Thanks!
Where can I get potassium permanganate. I've tried the lfs with no luck. Any suggestions?

you can get it at shops which sell supplies for swimming pools, but typically that's in large quantities.
Certain medications contain potassium permanganate, for instance "Flukes Control" by Aquatronics:

I just do a bleach dip, with 1 part bleach to 19 parts water.

I have never quarantined my plants, but I am lucky enough that my LFS has his plants for sale in a huge beautiful tank with no fish and not a spot of algae. I will prob get burned now that I say this.
