adding clay pots

I've had some fish pair off in my community tank. They lay eggs on the filter intake tube because there is no other place to lay them except the glass. I want to put clay pots in the tank just to give them another surface but I wanted to know if I should treat the pots in any way before putting them in the tank. They are the typical kind of clay pots you find in the garden store.

I rinse mine and put it in hot/warm water for couple hours :)

I put mine in a big pot and bring it to a boil on the stove and boil for 10 minutes then let cool off. Then I use a fresh scrubby sponge on it and then rinse it off and into the tank it goes. I want to be sure there is nothing on it when it goes into the tank.
