in my 55 i have 2 larger discus and 3 smaller ones, bare bottom with one big plant and a piece of large driftwood, standing directly vertical. I noticed the two large ones paired off and are always together. Then i saw them by the wood blowing waste off the base and fighting any intruding discus out. they also waved their tails fiercly infront of eachother. i threw in a divider at 8 last night and today i removed it because nothing happened. Am i wrong to do that?

Leave them alone for now. See if they lay eggs. It's best if you can spy on them laying eggs then you'll know which of the two is male and female. Once you definitely know you have a pair then you can move them to their own tank. Preferably a 29gal.

i'd let them spawn a few times before i'd move them....let them practice carrying and defending thier eggs...
