View Full Version : Too Much Filtration?

At the moment I've got 2 AC 500s on a 100g. They are both turned down to the lowest setting. I had cichlids in the tank before and they were filthy even with a Fluval 404 and a AC 500. I didn't like the Fluval so I got another AC 500. I just want to make sure it isn't too much flow for the discus.
I know the water can't be too filtered...I just don't know if I should be concerned about the water movement.

Thanks
James

Hey James,

Slicksta's right... crank them up! You do have a bb tank right? If so, I don't see any prob to that!

Thanks guys...but no it's not a BB tank...lots of fake plants and driftwood with gravel...it's my first discus display tank. Does it make a difference that it's not BB?

I don't think there should be a problem. I think carol has an AC 500 for her 55g, so even if you have two AC500 for a 100g, the water movement should not be a problem... especially if you have healthy discus.

Personnally, I have a 55g with an AC300 and two sponge filters and the fish do fine. In my 150g, I have an AC500 and an Eheim PII 2028... but if I could go back in time, I'd save my money and get two extra AC500 instead of the Eheim filter. Not because I don't like it, just because it was more expensive and AC filters are just so durable and easy to maintain...

That's pretty much why I changed from the Fluval to the AC. It's so much easier to clean! I was also mistaken about the tank size...it's 90g not 100g! Even so, everyone in there seems happy and is already hunting around for food only a few hours after moving them in...something they never did in the BB 75g they were in before...
The discus, the lemon tetras, and some corys...once the background is added it will be finished....for now!

Thanks for the help.
James
