Hi all

I made leopard SS and ocean green discus soup last night. I had one big heater instead of two small ones and last night the temp jumped to 101 f*. I got up this morning and found all my discus dead on the bottom, 2 leopard snakes, (one of which was as sweet as any I have ever seen, and one average one), a blue diamond, and a real pretty ocean green. all were 5-6 inches in size and about to be moved to a bigger tank. Worst thing is I knew better then to have one big heater. I feel so bad for cooking them alive. So any of you out there breaking this simple rule, don' t learn the hard way like me.

Hay guys

Thanks for the comments. Worse part is, I new better. The heater was a 1 month old Pro Heat 300W Titanium Heater in a 30 gal. tank. "I know, stupid stupid me". My 2 old 150 watt small heaters couldn't keep up the temp in winter(65*f in my basement) and $$$ was tight that week so instead of 2 new small ones for 40.00 I paid 25.00 for one big one to save money. Some savings, $420.00 for two shipments last October, about 10,000 water changes, an angry wife mad about getting her socks wet every night as I changed water and many 2.5 hour round trips to Randal B's house for brine shrimp and bloodworms. The best fish was a leopard snake skin and it looked like he was off of a discus poster or breeders website. Plus all being just short of a year old they spent most of the time doing the horny discus shuffle, I was pricing some breeding cones last night, and woke up to this nightmare.

Thanks guys
Gordon

Sheesh Gordon, that's some bad luck right there...really sorry to hear about it...hope it doesn't discourage you too much from getting right back into things, though.

I understand exactly how you must feel. This happened to me two months ago I fried six beautifull Altum angels.

I truly feel for you. I lost a leopard today because I diagnosed his sickness wrong and that was terrible, I can't imagine losing multiple discus from my mistake. :-[

Hello Gordon,

I'm very sorry for your loss. It's awful losing any pet.

Chin up. I hope you have a nice tank of bright little juves soon.

Cheers!
